Outboard motor prices in South Africa
Outboard motor pricing in South Africa moves with horsepower, engine type, import costs and the exchange rate. Here is what actually drives the number on the quote, and how to get a current price on the Africa Marine range.
What drives the price of an outboard motor
- Horsepower. Price climbs with power. A 15HP engine sits at the entry end of the range; a 60HP engine is the flagship.
- Engine type. Two-stroke engines are generally simpler and lighter. Four-stroke and diesel engines cost more up front but can be cheaper to run over long hours.
- Shaft length and controls. Long-shaft versions, remote steering and electric start change the specification and therefore the price.
- Exchange rate and import duties. Marine engines are imported, so the rand affects pricing through the year.
- What's included. Propeller, fuel tank, controls, rigging and fitment may be quoted separately by the dealer.
The Africa Marine range
Africa Marine covers 15HP to 60HP. Because pricing changes with specification and availability, we quote per enquiry rather than publishing a list price that goes out of date.
| Model | Power | Type | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| AM15 | 15HP | Two-Stroke Outboard | Tenders, Small fishing boats, Inland transport |

| AM30 | 30HP | Two-Stroke Outboard | Fishing boats, Utility vessels, Inflatables |

Look at running cost, not just purchase price
The cheapest engine to buy is not always the cheapest to own. Fuel consumption, service intervals, parts availability and warranty cover all add up over a season. If you run long hours commercially, fuel economy usually matters more than the difference in sticker price — which is why the AM25 diesel appeals to workboat operators.
How to get a price
Send an enquiry with your boat type, the horsepower you're considering and where you're based. We'll come back with current pricing and put you in touch with a dealer who can handle fitment and service.
Common questions
- How much does an outboard motor cost in South Africa?
- It depends mainly on horsepower and engine type, plus shaft length, controls and whether rigging and fitment are included. Africa Marine quotes current pricing per enquiry for its 15HP to 60HP range because import costs and the exchange rate move through the year.
- Why don't you publish list prices?
- Marine engines are imported, so pricing shifts with the exchange rate, duties and specification. A published price would be out of date quickly, so we give a current quote when you enquire.
- Is a bigger engine always more expensive to run?
- Not necessarily. A larger engine running comfortably within its range can use less fuel than a small engine working flat out to push the same load. Match the engine to the boat rather than buying the smallest option.
